Count Down to Mission Trip to Kenya!

It's almost time! We are beyond excited! In exactly 16 days we will be traveling to Gachie Village in Kenya. We have packed, re-packed and and sat on our suitcases to close them. For a party of 4, we each have 3 suitcases. That's a lot of suitcases! Given that it's a humanitarian trip, we get to have one extra. Yea!! But guess what? It's still not enough! There is so much we want to do and take with us. We want to be able to bless the children in the village with art & craft supplies, clothing, shoes, scissors, snacks, dolls, toys- and it's impossible to take it all. Does that mean there is a future trip in the making? Absolutely! We are so grateful to those of you who have given graciously, of your time, money and encouragement to make it all happen. This mission trip would not be happening without YOU!

Already gone ahead of us are some 40,000 books shipped in 2x40ft containers, to be distributed to the local schools. This is an international humanitarian assistance project that has shipped books to the village of Gachie near Nairobi. It will also supply many schools in and around the village with used textbooks; books that would otherwise be recycled or destroyed because they are being replaced with new textbooks in the N. Clackamas School District & Beaverton School Districts.

This shipment is part of a much larger humanitarian assistance project of Beaverton Rotary that is called “Rotary Books for the World”. The book project has collected and shipped about 1.9 million used school and textbooks collected in the Portland area since the year 2000. All materials donated in this capacity are not for sale.
